The internet has drastically changed the way we do a majority of the things in our life, such as shop, educate ourselves, date, and communicate with friends.

Most importantly, it’s changed the way we view security. In the past, you could do things such as lock your valuable items and information in a safety deposit box, or keep your money safe in a bank.

Today, falling victim to a cyber attack puts you, your friends, family, and colleagues at risk. Luckily, there are things you can do to prevent yourself from falling victim to scams and information theft.

This includes understanding why security matters, learning to recognize some common threats, and reshaping behaviors that put you at increased risk of attack such as looking at your smartphone security, the power of a strong password, as well as additional security measures such as two-factor authentication and encryption.

All of these pieces of personal internet security boils down to understanding the threat you face when engaging with a technologically immersed world, as well as how to format your life to keep these threats as small as possible. You don’t have to be someone special to become the target of a hacker, and being prepared for the worse will ensure that your information and money are kept safe from those who would do you harm.
